Alaska Grizzlies Hockey provides a positive atmosphere for all student-athletes to be given the platform to demonstrate physical fitness, hockey skill growth, and the development of life skills. We build character in our athletes through competition in the game of hockey and instill in them core values which are integral to life’s successes.

Alaska Grizzlies Hockey is proud to present this year’s 10UAA Minor led by Wyatt Bartlett. The team, comprised of athletes in the 2011 & 2012 birth years, is poised to have a breakthrough year with several returning second year players and a plethora of new skaters graduating from the 8U age classification. The sky is the limit for this next group of young athletes.

WYATT BARTLETT, Head Coach

Coach Bartlett has played hockey his entire life and is grateful for the opportunity to share what he’s learned with the next generation of players. “It is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.” Coach Bartlett is  very passionate about the game, the process of developing player skills, bonding a strong and united team, and developing good work ethic during practices and games. His goal is to ensure that all of this can be achieved while also having fun along the way. Hockey is a game of skills and development. Players develop and learn by being given the opportunity to play in all game situations. Experiencing the highs and lows of power plays, penalty kills and end of game results makes players mentally tougher. Coach Bartlett brings a firm approach to the rink and expects players to work hard, play with discipline, encourage and support each other, and compete hard every day. When all the players buy into this concept, we become a “team”.

10U AA MAJOR (2010-2011 BIRTH YEARS)

The Alaska Grizzlies 10U program is a competitive travel and development hockey program for players of advanced skill levels who wish to be placed on an Alaska Grizzlies 10U team that employs the fundamental curriculum of USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM) with added AKG Enhancements. The Alaska Grizzlies 10U program focuses on accelerated learning of coordination and fine motor control and is the critical stage for the acquisition of hockey skills. The primary ice times will be Monday-Thursday in the early evenings for practices and Friday, Saturday and sometimes Sundays for games (excluding travel weekends). Ice sheets at the 10U level consist of full ice, half ice, and additional shared possibilities for 60 minutes. Game formats will be a mixture or half ice and full ice in compliance with ASHA rules. There will be assessments to ensure all teams are formed based on evaluated skill knowledge in groups of 10-13 skaters and 1-2 goalies. At the 10U level, players will begin to transfer skills and concepts from practices to games. Group interaction, team building and social activities are also emphasized. A balance of practice and games will promote the continued development and mastery of key hockey skills.

ALASKA GRIZZLIES

The Northern Alaska Hockey Association Alaska Grizzlies (AKG) were formed in 1991 and first skated under the name Fairbanks Ice Hawks. The founders believed that there was a need for an organization dedicated entirely to the development of a competition team program for our youth in the Fairbanks North Star Borough and surrounding areas. The goals then, as they still are now, are to increase the number of competition teams in our area, seek additional ways to financially support our teams, and to provide …. (Read More)
