BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Alaska Grizzlies and Arctic Lions Board of Directors is a diverse group of hockey enthusiasts who jointly supervise the activities of some of the oldest youth hockey organizations in Fairbanks, Alaska. The board has the luxury of pulling members from all facets of the Fairbanks hockey community - from Coaches, to bankers, to retired Certified Public Accounts, to seasoned community and youth sports supporters and advocates - to ensure the current board has a wealth of knowledge of all workings of a successful organization.

Bruce

Bruce Haas
President

 Arctic Lions & Alaska Grizzlies

Bruce was born and raised in Fairbanks and resides here with his wife and three children. Growing up in Fairbanks, Bruce enjoyed hockey, football, and baseball. Bruce began coaching right after high school and has continued to coach baseball, football, basketball and hockey over the years. As a member of the Fairbanks community, Bruce is committed to youth sports and ensuring the best opportunity for all athletes to find their passion.

Steve

Steve Phillips

Steve Phillips and his family moved to Fairbanks in 2020 on an Army move and found their calling and a home in Alaska's interior shortly after arriving. Steve now serves as the Vice President of the Arctic Lions and the Association's Coaching Coordinator, and volunteers in other capacities to advance the sport in the state. He and wife, Shea, along with their three little hockey players, have found a warm and welcoming community with the Lions/Grizzlies/Ice Puppies and thrive with helping other families find the incredible enjoyment offered by the sport.

Beau

Beau McBrien

Beau enjoys the game of hockey and works to instill the love of the game with young athletes. As a strong supporter of Alaska Grizzlies, Beau's dedication to growing the Alaska Grizzlies Academy and ensuring players look good in their game uniforms keeps him busy! Beau and his wife have two children who both play hockey.

Stephanie

Stephanie Smith

Stephanie is a lifelong Fairbanksan who can be found volunteering around town throughout the year. She dedicates a tremendous amount of time to her kids and their interests including hockey and baseball. Stephanie and her husband can be seen on the sidelines, on the bench or at an event supporting players and capturing pictures of their excitement and engagement in the sports they love.

 

Shana

Shana Pilkinton

Born and raised in Fairbanks, Shana love the small community feel in this town. She loves being a part of a community that comes together for it's members, for so many different causes. Shana has worked for a local insurance brokerage firm for 22 years. Married 21 years to Jess, they have two children, Emily and Zach. Zach played hockey with NAHA/Arctic Lions for 11 years, which makes her a very proud Hockey Mom.

Jamie

Jamie and her family moved to Fairbanks in 2016 from Ohio. She an Ohio University and UAF alumni and has worked in the field of education for 17 years. Currently, she enjoys working for MWR serving school-age military youth and their families at Fort Wainwright where she has been since 2019. She loves networking with the local community of Fairbanks and providing resources and services to youth in the community. She has three wonderful children (Bryan, Reagan, and Jaxson )with her husband. Bryan has played with NAHA for the last 4 years, Reagan just started hockey in 2024, and Jaxson is right on the path to follow along in his sibling's shoes. When she is not working or fulfilling her Hockey Mom duties, she enjoys being behind the lens of a camera to capture family photography.

Shea

Shea Phillips

Shea was raised in Texas but has seen all corners of the United States and travelled all over the world in her adult life, with the military bringing her to Alaska 4 years ago. As an Army Veteran of 10 years, she brings a host of leadership qualities that positively affect our program and the environment at the rink. More importantly, she brings a deep love for the game of hockey and for getting youth involved in it from the earliest of ages. Most important of all, Shea brings a fully committed Family to the Alaska Grizzlies/Arctic Lions. She is entering her fifth season as the manager of the Learn to Hockey/Ice Puppies 6U program and her third season managing the Junior Grizzlies 8U program. With three young children playing on these teams, she’s also one of the biggest fans that you’ll find in the bleachers! When not involved in hockey, Shea can be found volunteering around town, crafting, reading, gardening, and enjoying all the outdoor activities!

Heidi was born and raised in Fairbanks and enjoys volunteering for various organizations to support the community she loves. Supporting youth hockey and the opportunity for players to have access to different levels of play is important to her. Heidi's son played for the Ice Puppies, Jr Grizzlies, Alaska Grizzlies, and Arctic Lions before pursuing higher level hockey in Alaska and beyond.

Shawston's enthusiasm to support youth hockey is felt in every rink she enters. She can be found cheering on her favorite players and supporting all players on the ice. Shawston is quick to offer help where it is needed. She and her husband have three children so she stays busy running them to activities and supporting each of them in their interests.

We honor the late Jack Tragis as the founding president and a long standing pillar of the Fairbanks hockey community for more than four decades when he retired from hockey in 2019. A true gentleman, coach, dad, and mentor for countless players, parents, fellow coaches - Jack always gave you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Jack retired from the military and being an accountant, and continued to volunteer his time helping young athletes excel at hockey during most of his retirement years. Thank you, Jack!
